New Canton History Book Event

By Haywood County Library | Aug 12, 2013

Learn about Canton's history from Michael Beadle, author of a new book on Canton, on Tuesday, Aug. 27, at 5:30 p.m. at Canton Branch Library. More than 200 historic photographs of Canton and its surrounding communities have been compiled into a history book authored by Michael Beadle and produced by Arcadia Publishing. The 128-page book includes images and history about the town of Canton, famous Canton residents, churches and schools, local businesses and special events that have shaped this mountain mill town for over a century.

Michael Beadle, who has authored or co-authored several Haywood County history books, worked two years on this Canton book project, researching and gathering old photos and history from local residents, the Canton Historical Museum and Champion archives. Many of the photographs in the book have never before been published. Some date back to the 1880s.

The Canton book will be available for purchase at the event, and will be sold at local bookstores and Canton businesses. Books can also be ordered directly from Arcadia Publishing. The event is free to attend, and refreshments will be served. For more information, call the Canton Branch Library at 648-2924.
