The Commission for a Clean County (CCC) will do a hands-on litter pickup on Saturday, June 14, in Canton.  The work will be done along Champion Drive by request of the Canton Town Board. The public’s help is greatly appreciated.

All volunteers meet a little before 9 a.m. in the parking lot of the Sagebrush restaurant, off Exit 31. Bags, gloves and vests will be provided to all volunteers.

The CCC, an environmental cleanliness board, performs this service for each town in Haywood County and for a county road. The group works from May through September or October, depending on weather.

The season’s present schedule for pickups, after the one on June 14, is: July 12, a county road; Aug. 9 in Clyde; Sept. 13, Maggie Valley.  If October weather is good, the CCC is available for a special request.

Litter pickups are done in a light drizzle, but are cancelled if there is a heavy rain or electrical storm.

Call CCC chairman Dr. Bill Skelton at 456-3575 or secretary JoAnna Swanson at 452-1550 for information.
