North Canton Elementary recently benefited from the generosity of a nearby church.

Members of the Adult Sunday School class at Beaverdam United Methodist Church wanted to do something for the children of their community. Upon contacting Haywood County Schools, they learned from Alecia Glance that North Canton has the highest percentage of students receiving free or reduced lunch.

Sarah Hall, member of the Adult Sunday School Class then contacted Todd Barbee, principal at NCE, to ask how best they could help his students.

The decision was made to make a $250 annual donation to North Canton’s cafeteria.  This money will go toward helping students who have difficulty paying the 40 cent daily rate for reduced lunches.  Their donation has inspired others to “pay it forward."  An anonymous donor has pledged $10 a month toward the fund.

Further, the cafeteria staff at North Canton has decided to forgo exchanging Christmas gifts with one another and instead donate the money to help a family in need at NCE.
