Notes on Quotes-Hiking and the Legend of Pocahontas
“Pocahontas is one of those historical characters who comes across to us eternally embalmed in some legend rather than a person in her own right and in her own humanity.” Noel B. Gerson
We were hiking on Kimsey Creek when it happened, “This looks like a scene from ‘Pocahontas,’ Marcia mused. The Disney movie had been a favorite of our children and grandchildren. We were on a hike at Standing Indian and the sounds of the creek and the thick ferns and moss covered trees were perfect antidotes for the stress in our life. We have hiked the Kimsey Creek Trail for years, which goes along an old railway track used by the Ritter Logging Company during the 1920’s. Wild flowers and plants abound and include rhododendron, violets, jack-in-the-pulpit, wild geranium and many varieties of mushrooms.
