MAGGIE VALLEY — Youth For Christ’s Outdoor Mission Camp (OMC) will open its doors to youth in the county for a midwinter gathering from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 12, at the camp, 3190 Fie Top Road, Maggie Valley.

Students are invited to eat dinner, participate in a talent show and go for a hayride or go sledding, depending on the weather.

“This time of year things are moving slowly and it just seems like a good time to get our youth out for a time of friendship and socializing, some friendly talent competition, and an opportunity to grow community,” said Jamie Shackelford, co-director of OMC. “I hope that the talent show will bring unity to each church's youth group and that participating in the area-wide event will bring community to our local churches.”

OMC is an outreach of Youth For Christ USA. Youth For Christ reaches young people everywhere, working together with the local church and other like-minded partners to raise up lifelong followers of Jesus who lead by their godliness in lifestyle, devotion to prayer and the word of God, passion for sharing the love of Christ and commitment to social involvement.

Volunteers from The Vine will serve food and help with supervision at this event. OMC invites area churches to take the lead in reaching out to youth. Maggie Valley First Baptist will host the next community-wide gathering.

RSVPs are appreciated so that the correct amount of food can be prepared. For more information or questions, call at 926-3253 or 336-583-9932.
