Jay Brown returns to the Classic Wineseller, 20 Church St., for a Friday Night Live performance from 7 to 10 p.m. March 29. Small plate Italian fare is prepared in the Classic Wineseller’s kitchen between 5:30 to 9 p.m.
Brown has been playing guitar since the age of seven and writing music since high school. A prolific songwriter, his performance repertoire contains more than 50 original songs, as well as covers from a wide range of genres. A favorite of Friday NIght Live fans is Brown’s rendition of Duke Ellington’s “What a Wonderful World.”
Brown has spent years traveling and playing across the United States absorbing its rich musical heritage and performing with the Old Crow Medicine Show, and musical legends Etta Baker and Doc Watson.
Brown’s eclectic musical tastes found a vehicle for expression when he became a founding member of the old-time swing band, Lazybirds, a band that blends a variety of musical styles, including jazz and blues, to create fresh and soul-stirring sounds.
A versatile musician, Brown is as much at home playing the blues in New Orleans as he is playing jazz or classical music in New York City. Originally from Boone, Brown resides in Swannanoa with his wife and daughter.
Each week the Classic Wineseller's Friday Night Live music series showcases local, regional, and on occasion, national talent. For information,  visit www.classicwineseller.com or www.facebook.com/theclassicwineseller, or call 452-6000.
