WAYNESVILLE — Opal Giles Becker, 90, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014.
Mrs. Becker was born in Haywood County Jan. 12, 1923 to the late William Giles and the late Grace Hill Giles. She moved to Hampton, Virginia, in 1939 where she had made her home until returning to Haywood County, where she had resided for the past two years. Mrs. Becker was a member of Liberty Baptist Church in Hampton, Virginia. She retired from Newport News Shipbuilding in 1970 with 30 years of dedicated service. Mrs. Becker enjoyed traveling and she was an avid coin collector. Also, her love for cats will always be remembered by her family and friends. Special memories of Opal will remain in our hearts forever.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Charles R. Becker, who passed away in 1994, and her brothers, Glenn, Charles and Junior Giles.
Surviving is her sister, Vennice G. Davis of Waynesville, and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014 in the chapel of Crawford/Ray Funeral Home. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will be held Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014 in Oakland Cemetery in Hampton, Virginia.
