Open Door fundraiser brings bluegrass flair
The Open Door will present “Blue Ridge Music Jam,” a fun packed evening filled with an assortment of music from 6 to 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9 at HART in Waynesville.
The Hill Country Band will bring the bluegrass flare to the event, Mountain Joy will flavor the evening with good ole southern gospel, and Craig Summers and Chris Minick will fill the air with their unique blend of Americana style music with a resounding message.
These musical segments will include brief intermissions to auction off items of special interest, some from area businesses and some the product of our Family of Friends at The Open Door. Nice door prizes will be given and refreshments will be served.
Holly Parker, event organizer, said the focus of the event is to bring awareness of the members of the community who are finding life a challenge because of dire circumstances. Some have fallen on hard economic times. Others have encountered battles with physical, emotional and mental illness.
"Substance abuse has taken its toll on many. Elderly scramble to make ends meet on a fixed income and we are losing too many of our youth to a world of harsh realities," she said. "These are the faces and lives that are center stage for this event and these are the people that The Open Door Ministry encounters each week."
All proceeds from this fundraiser will go to support the ministry of The Open Door as it reaches out in Christ’s love to this growing segment of our population.
Tickets are on sale now and costs $30 for adults and $15 for children 12 and under. You may purchase the tickets at the office of The Open Door (32 Commerce Street, Waynesville) or call 452-3846.
