Pace named to all-academic team

Former Pisgah star the first in Catamount softball’s eight-year history to earn honor

CULLOWHEE — Western Carolina softball senior Haley Pace, a former Pisgah standout, was named to the 2013 Capital One Academic All-District III First Team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). As a first team selection, Pace now advances to the Capital One All-Academic Team ballot.
The third baseman becomes the first player in Catamount softball’s eight-year history to be named to the academic all-district team. Pace carries a 3.98 GPA in biology. She is a two-time selection to the Southern Conference Spring All-Academic Team and also two-time SoCon Academic Honor Roll.
Pace has a .254 batting average and ranks fourth on the team in hits with 35 this season.
She ranks second on the team in homeruns with six and fourth on the team in RBI with 20.
Pace, who currently has 96 in her career, needs four RBI she to break the Western Carolina career RBI record which is 99 set by Lauren Ross (2006-09).
She is one of three players from the Southern Conference to be named to the All-District III Academic team.
The 2013 Capital One Academic All-District Softball Teams recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically and in the classroom.
