Anita Patrick, RN, a home care nurse at MedWest-Haywood, was awarded the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses.

DAISY Award honorees personify MedWest’s remarkable patient experience, and consistently demonstrate excellence though their clinical expertise. They are recognized as outstanding role models in our nursing community. Patrick, who has been a nurse for more than 30 years, has been recognized consistently by her peers and patients as a nurse who goes beyond the call of duty.

“Her commitment to the delivery of quality services is shown daily in her interactions with patients. Her patients are highly complementary of her nursing abilities and compassionate care,” said a coworker. “Anita is a team player. She is willing to accept changes to her schedule or see extra patients when the need arises.”

Patrick has been recognized for canceling her paid time off to accept extra shifts, staying late to assist in training new nurses, and taking on extra patients at the end of the day. She has been with MedWest-Haywood for 12 years and feels that home care is the perfect place to demonstrate her nursing abilities.

“What I like most about nursing is working in home care and being able to help people in all the ways that are available to us,” Patrick said.

In her personal time, Patrick enjoys spending time with her family and working on home projects.

The DAISY Foundation is a nonprofit organization founded in honor of Pat Barnes, a California resident who died from auto-immune disease in 1999. Barnes’s family founded DAISY, which stands for Diseases Attacking the Immune System, to recognize the outstanding and compassionate nursing care Pat received during his illness. As part of that recognition, they also included the DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses, which has been used to recognize exceptional nurses in hospitals and healthcare facilities throughout the United States. MedWest is a DAISY Award Hospital Partner, recognizing three of its nurses with this special honor every quarter.

Each DAISY Award honoree recognized at a public ceremony in their unit and receives a certificate, a DAISY Award pin, and a hand-carved stone sculpture entitled "A Healer's Touch."
