Pay Attention if Your Dog Has a Cough If not, Get Your Pet’s Vaccinations Up to Date

By Haywood Spay/Neuter | May 11, 2012

We are getting reports from vets and kennels and others that bordatella (commonly called Kennel Cough) and an apparently new strain of it are making the rounds in Haywood County.   Some cases are requiring serious vet care.  It has even plagued dogs in rural areas of the county that haven't been in contact with other dogs.   We asked just about every dog owner on this week's transport if they noticed any sneezing or coughing. None had.  Connie Hewitt, president of Haywood Spay/Neuter says, “If we get reports that more dogs have come down with it, we will seriously consider not taking dogs on transports until this virus has calmed down.”  “Please check with your vet to be sure that your dog is up to date on its vaccinations, bordatella in particular, and catch up if they are not,” said Penny Wallace, executive director.
