ORLANDO, Florida — Over the Christmas break, the Pisgah High School cheerleaders performed during halftime at the Russell Athletic Bowl, which featured the West Virginia Mountaineers against the Miami Hurricanes.
A total of 33 girls from the Pisgah cheer program  had a busy few months as they combined preparing for the Russell Athletic Bowl, the NCHSAA competition competition, cheering during the Black Bears football team’s deep playoff run and getting ready for the upcoming basketball season.
The girls had to know the material very well before arriving in Orlando because they had limited rehearsal time with the famous choreographer, Rosero McCoy, who is best known for his work on the popular Disney Channel shows “Shake It Up,” “Austin and Ally” and “Good Luck Charlie.”
He is also well known for his choreography on great movies like, “Chipmunks 1 and 2,” “Step Up,” “Beauty Shop,” “Garfield 1 and 2,” “Ice Age” and “Rio.”  Rosero has also worked on tour with the Jonas Brothers, Demi Lavato, and Beyonce.
Most recently, Rosero had the honor of working with the First Lady Michelle Obama on her Healthy Living Campaign.
The Pisgah Girls were among 15 other groups from across the country for a total of 240 dancers along with 13 marching bands playing the music behind them.  The entire football field at the Camping World Stadium was covered with young people.
“Truly a breathtaking sight,” said Pisgah Head Coach Tammy P. Ensley.
This is the third bowl game for the Pisgah cheerleading program.
“It is an amazing experience to meet other teenagers from across the country that have the same love for performing,” said Ensley. “I am very fortunate to be able to travel and expose my girls to new things.  High school is only for four goal is to make it the best four years that I possibley can.”
