Pisgah Fury finishes fifth at Triple Crown
CUMMINGS, Georgia — The Pisgah Fury Summer Softball Club finished fifth overall at the Triple Crown College Showcase 24-team Tournament this past weekend.
The Fury was knocked out by the eventual “Triple Crown” champion Boaz (Kentucky) Dream Team, 3-2, Sunday morning.
The Fury opened with two shutout wins on Friday, taking down the Velocity (Georgia), 7-0, and the Replay (Georgia), 8-0.
In Saturday’s final pool games, the Fury fell to Brownsville (Texas) Lady Jackets, 3-2, and were shutout, 3-0, by the South Forsyth (Georgia) Flames.
In Sunday’s single elimination bracket play, the Pisgah Fury won the first game against Marietta (Georgia) Bandits, 8-0, before its game with the Boaz (Kentucky) Dream Team.
Leading the Fury in total tournament hits were Brooklyn Allen (8), Ashley Penland (7), Sheridan Pressley (6), Callie Kuykendall (6) and Mandalin Blanton (5).
Highest Fury batting averages were Penland (.500), Allen (.421), Kuykend
Kuykendall allowed just eight earned runs in the 31 innings she pitched from inside the circle. She finished 3-3 with an impressive 1.54 ERA and struck out 17 batters.
The Pisgah Fury recently played in the Big Orange College Showcase, July 12-14, in Knoxville, Tennessee. As of press time, no results were available.
