Pisgah girls win WNCAC Basketball Tournament championship

Tuscola boys lose on buzzer beater, 88-86, to North Henderson

MILLS RIVER — The Pisgah girls pulled off the upset of the season, beating Smoky Mountain, 62-59, to win the WNCAC Girls Basketball Tournament championship game Tuesday night at West Henderson High School.

Pisgah improved to 19-5 and Smoky fell to 24-2.

Pisgah's Maddie Webb was named most valuable player of the girls' tournament, while teammate Lani Woods and Tuscola's Cierra Jackson were named to the all-tournament team.

Haywood County almost brought home two conference tournament championships as a determined Tuscola boys team almost upset No. 1 seed North Henderson Tuesday night. But a 3-point jumper at the buzzer gave the Knights an 88-86 win over the Mountaineers.

Tuscola's Anthony Westhusing and Landon Henley were named to the all-Tournament team, North's Austin Nelson was voted M.V.P.
