Pisgah loses ‘Penaltygate’
ROBBINSVILLE — Pisgah Head Coach David Pressley took a glance back at the scoreboard and shook his head.
“In 26 years of coaching, I’ve never been in a game like this before,” said Pressley, who was visibly upset at the crew of officials from the Smoky Mountain Conference throughout the non-conference game and even after the contest. “It’s extremely dissappointing to have that many flags thrown against both teams. Just when you think you’ve seen it all, you realize that you haven’t. There’s not much more I can say at this time.”
Robbinsville defeated Pisgah, 56-35, in a game that set a new North Carolina High School Athletic Association record for total penalties and penalty yards.
The Black Bears and Black Knights were flagged a combined 40 times for a scandalous 360 yards.
