Pisgah rallies to defeat Roberson Rams
CANTON — The Pisgah varsity volleyball team rebounded from its loss at Enka and defeated visiting T.C. Roberson, 3-1 (14-25, 25-23, 25-16, 25-22), in a non-conference match Monday night.
But it was a rocky beginning for the Black Bears, who had no answer for the Roberson’s front line in a first set loss.
But Pisgah Head Coach Megan Woods made the adjustment that turned the tide for her Black Bears. She brought in junior Shelby Tomassi, who sparked Pisgah to three consectuve set victories.
“We went back to two setters running a 6-2,” said Coach Woods. “That allowed us to utilize Sheridan (Pressley) and Lisa (Caldwell) on the back. Tomassi really played well at her presence at the net in the final three sets allowed us to be more versatile hitting from all three spots.”
Notable performances for the Black Bears were turned in by Mariah Lewis (3 aces, 10 kills, 3 blocks, 7 digs), Montana Moore (4 aces, 7 kills, 14 digs), Pressley (1 kill, 29 assists, 14 digs), Brooklyn Allen (17 kills, 13 digs), Caldwell (2 aces, 5 kills, 5 blocks 9 digs, 13 assists) and Tomassi (1 kill, 2 digs).
Pisgah, which improved to 2-1 overall, will host East Henderson in a 6:30 p.m. in a WNC Athletic Conference opener on Thursday, Aug. 29.
