Pisgah's valedictorian to kick for Davidson
CANTON — Pisgah senior place kicker Nathan Higdon is committed to his books and kicking the football.
On Wednesday, in front of a packed media center, Hidgon will get to continue his pursuit of academic excellence when he committed to play football for Davidson College.
Higdon, who is Pisgah’s valedictorian, was one of the leaders on the 11-2 varsity football team.
“Getting to officially announce that I will be attending Davidson College and will be a member of the football team is a very special and meaningful day,” said Higdon, who handled all the kicking duties for the past two seasons. “I get to share this special moment with Coach (Brett) Chappell and Coach (David) Pressley, my family and friends. Playing for the Pisgah Black Bears was a great experience and I will cherish all those special moments.
“What drew me to Davidson College was two things,” said Higdon. “The first is Davidson’s high academic standards and its student-professor connection. I had the opportunity to spend some time on the campus this past summer and I really loved the experience.”
Pisgah Head Coach Brett Chappell, who often touted Hidgon as one of the best kickers in Western North Carolina, thinks he will be a success at Davidson College.
“This is a special day for Nathan and the Pisgah football program,” said Chappell. “We are certainly very proud of Nathan’s accomplishments in the classroom and on the football field. We are united in congratulating him for his achievements and we all wish him the very best as he continues his career at Davidson College.”
