Pisgah's Winebarger earns All-American statusSophomore finishes third at Nuway National Wrestling Tournament
BATTLE CREEK, Michigan — Last weekend, Pisgah sophomore Chandler Winebarger finished third overall in the 152-pound weight class at the 2017 Nuway National Wrestling Tournament.
This event, which was held at the Kellogg Arena, drew young grapplers from throughout the country and by placing in the top four, Winebarger earned All-American honors.
Winebarger was 45-10 for the Black Bears and qualified for the NCHSAA Class 3-A Wrestling Tournament, finishing in the top 12.
“It’s impressive to be with a young man who used his spring break to compete in a national wrestling tournament in Michigan,” said Pisgah Head Coach Ryan Gibson. “Chandler is very committed to the sport.”
Brian Hill (2001) was the last Pisgah wrestler to earn all-american status.
“I’ve worked hard at becoming the best wrestler I can be and now it’s starting to pay off,” said Winebarger. “Finishing third in Battle Creek among some of the best from around the country was truly a thrill for me.”
