The arrival of late June signals the first pitch of local Little League District 5 softball and baseball tournaments throughout Western North Carolina.
On Monday, the Six, Seven, Eight, and Nine Division baseball and softball tournaments began, while the 9/10, 11s and 11/12 (Major) baseball and softball tournaments will start Monday, June 25.
Canton Little League has six all-star baseball teams and three all-star softball teams competing in various D5 tournaments. Mountaineer Little League has four all-star baseball teams and only one softball squad participating in five tournaments.
