Polly Poteate Cooper
NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia — Polly Poteate Cooper, 72, went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 11, 2013. As she entered Heaven, she was surrounded by her loving family.
Born Nov. 12, 1940, she was a native of Waynesville.
Preceding Polly in death are her parents, the Rev. Lester Poteate and Hilda Poteate, Hazelwood, North Carolina.
Mrs. Cooper is survived by two sons, the Rev. John Cooper of Washington, North Carolina, Dan Cooper of Jacksonville, North Carolina, and one daughter; Kathy Cooper Clark of Phenix City, Alabama, three sisters; Loreen Mazzeo of Asheville, Barbara Bolen of Newport News, Virginia and Rita Lyman of Knoxville, Tennessee, as well as five grandchildren and three great-grand daughters.
An avid reader and follower of the Bible, one of Mrs. Cooper’s favorite verses was Psalms 121:1: “I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help.” In honor of her wishes, Mrs. Cooper will return to her beloved mountains.
A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept.14, in the Full Gospel Holiness Church in Canton with the Rev. John Cooper officiating. The interment will be held at Green Hill Cemetery following the service. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church.
