Post 47 Dragoons' 2014 schedule released
Entering its second season as a member of the North Carolina American Senior Legion Area IV West Division, the Haywood Post 47 Dragoons Baseball Club announced its 2014 schedule on Sunday.
With new member Kings Mountain moving over from Area IV East Division, the slate features an exciting 18-game West Division schedule and a very competitive six-game non-league schedule that includes a pair of home two-game series with Donelson (TN) Post 88 and Camden (SC) Post 17 to open the 2014 regular season.
Stacked with a bunch of sophomores in in their first back since 1952, the Dragoons are looking to rebound from a 4-15 record after being swept 3-0 by eventual Area IV champion Shelby in the first round of the playoffs.
Post 47 will also resume playing at Tuscola Ballpark and will open the season hosting Donelson (TN) Post 88 at 7 p.m. on Saturday, May 24.
The Dragoons will play Donelson again at noon on Sunday before taking on Camden (SC) that night at 7 p.m. at the Tuscola Ballpark.
Post 47 will cap the weekend with a 5 p.m. Memorial Day contest against Camden.
The Dragoons will then open Area IV West Division play at Hickory on Wednesday, May 28.
A new addition to the schedule will be playing Henderson County Post 77 and Asheville Post 70 three times during the regular season. But only two of the three games will count as West Division games and one will be counted against the overall record.
During the regular season, Post 47 will play 13 home games and 11 away, including doubleheaders at Shelby (5 p.m.) on June 22 and at Cherryville (5 p.m.) on June 27.
The Area IV Senior Legion postseason will start with the best-of-five first round series on Wednesday, July 2. The Area IV playoffs are expected to end on July 21.
The 2014 North Carolina Senior Legion Tournament will be held in Lexington, beginning Saturday, July 26 and closes on July 31 with the crowing of the state champion.
For the second straight year, the Senior Legion Southeast Regional will be held in Asheboro, Aug. 7-11.
The 2014 American Legion World Series is at Keeter Stadium in Shelby, Aug. 15-20.
Beginning this season, a national audience will be able to watch the World Series championship game live from Shelby on ESPNU.
Al the other World Series games will be broadcast on ESPN3.com.
