The Haywood Regional Medical Center Foundation (HRMCF) is presenting its 22nd annual Charitable Classic Golf & Gala, a two-day fundraiser Tuesday, Aug. 27 and Wednesday, Aug. 28 for MedWest-Haywood that features five golf tournaments and an evening gala.

The HRMC foundation held a sponsor kick-off June 12 to thank past and current sponsors at Maggie Valley Club. This year’s lead sponsor, Warren and Marilyn Bateman, served as hosts for the kick-off.

The HRMC Foundation promotes and administers charitable gifts for the advancement of MedWest-Haywood’s abilities to respond fully to the changing and growing health care needs of local citizens. Proceeds from this year's HRMC Foundation Charitable Classic Golf & Gala will help fund a remodel of the fourth floor of the hospital which encompasses Women’s Care and the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) and Unbudgeted Funding Opportunities (UFO), a grant program to help departments at MedWest Haywood purchase equipment or materials to supplement the current budget.

The HRMC Foundation Charitable Classic Golf & Gala kicks off Tuesday, Aug. 27 with a men’s golf tournament at 8:30 a.m. at Maggie Valley Club and a ladies’ golf tournament at 12:30 p.m. at Waynesville Inn Golf Resort & Spa.

A men’s golf tournament starts at 8 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28 at Waynesville Inn Golf Resort & Spa, followed by men’s golf tournaments at noon at Laurel Ridge Country Club in Waynesville and 1 p.m. at Waynesville Inn Golf Resort & Spa.

The format for the tournaments is captain’s choice with two-person teams. Boxed lunches and beverages will be provided for all golfers and volunteers at each tournament.

The gala celebration will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 28 at Waynesville Inn Golf Resort & Spa. The event will feature an eloquent dinner buffet and live music by the band Orange Krush.

Individual tickets to the evening gala are $65. Individual golf tournament slots are $150 and include one ticket to the evening gala. Discount tickets for men participating in two tournaments are $250 each and include two gala tickets.

To date, more than 117 sponsors have contributed more than $110,000 to the event. Sponsorships and golf entries are available for all tournaments.

Event co-chairs are Ron and Susan Breese. Susan Breese’s father and mother, Dick and Emily Bradley, were past co-chairs of the tournament.

“My dad and mom instilled in me that as members of this community we must give back by volunteering and supporting financially worthwhile causes in Haywood County," she said. "MedWest Haywood is a vital part of this community and the HRMC Foundation has contributed significant funds to assist the hospital in providing excellent care to the citizens of Haywood County."
