It’s not every day the staff at Autumn Care Nursing & Rehab gets to sample food from a world-renowned chef, much less having him prepare a delicious meal in their very own therapy gym.  Autumn Care therapy patient, Mark Milroy has certainly shown that, although he is retired, he definitely hasn’t lost his passion for creating mouthwatering meals fit for a president!

Mr. Milroy has a long history of cooking across the world, with his roots in Yorkshire, England.  He has even cooked for many celebrities and politicians.  His most notable experience was serving as personal chef for President Clinton and his family in the 1990’s at their vacation home in San Diego.  He is now retired and living in Waynesville, but still enjoys cooking for his family.

His most recent endeavor was wowing the staff at Autumn Care when he showed off his culinary skills by cooking a meal while completing his rehabilitation program, including physical and occupational therapy.  Milroy underwent a hip replacement and decided the quickest road to recovery was with Autumn Care’s inpatient rehab program.  After spending 20 days at Autumn Care, Milroy was back on his feet and able to create his famous chicken stir fry for the staff and residents.  Preparing this meal was an important part of completing his occupational therapy goals, which usually involves the patient improving activities of daily living skills, such as dressing, bathing, and even preparing a meal.

Milroy happily agreed to wrap up his occupational therapy goals by cooking a meal, and was right at home in Autumn Care’s therapy gym kitchen, although it wasn’t equipped with all the gourmet cookware and gadgets he is accustomed to!  Occupational therapist, Ernie Gentry, was tickled to get to work beside such an amazing chef, not to mention getting to sample his delectable creation.  Milroy was very humble about his food, but it certainly was worth a trip back to the therapy gym to snag a bite of some out-of-this-world chicken stir fry for the folks at Autumn Care.
