Psychiatric service grant awarded
Meridian Behavioral Health Services Inc., a local provider of comprehensive mental health and substance abuse services, was recently awarded a grant for $105,677 to support the provision of psychiatric services.
Meridian’s outpatient psychiatric services, which include psychiatric evaluation, consultation, medication management and a patient assistance program, are integral to Meridian's continuum of care.
Of the 4,500 individuals that Meridian serves annually, almost 2,300 (51 percent) receive psychiatric services. Psychiatric medications often effectively alleviate symptoms of depression, anxiety, distorted thinking etc. and in the case of medications like Suboxone, provide medication-assisted therapy for individuals dependent on opioids.
Meridian’s CEO, Joe Ferrara, noted that while psychiatric services are absolutely essential to the delivery of quality behavioral healthcare, providers across the state struggle to cover the cost of these services. It was this reality that led to Meridian’s grant application and subsequent award.
