REACH of Haywood will offer a volunteer training day from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 28, at REACH’s Waynesville office, 627 N. Main St.

REACH is the county's domestic violence, sexual assault, elder and dating abuse prevention and intervention agency, and is seeking volunteers to assist with the REACH Helpline phone services and in other ways through Friends of REACH committees.

The training session is open to adults 18 and older. Lunch, snacks and training notebooks will be provided to all attendees.

Helpline volunteers donate anywhere from one 12-hour shift a month to three or more shifts, as desired. All contact is by phone and no face-to-face contact with callers is required.

Each volunteer has a backup staff member in case personal sheltering or emergency service is needed. All calls are referred to the volunteer through REACH's after-hours answering service.

Call REACH's office at 456-7898 for more information and to pre-register and ask to speak with Buffy.
