CANTON — Rebecca Henderson Stamey, 88, passed away Monday, April 15, 2013, at Autumn Care Nursing Home.
A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Paul Montgomery and Florence Shelton Henderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy L. Stamey, who died April 14, 1993, and a brother, Thomas Henry “Bud” Henderson. Rebecca was known for her servant’s heart, always helping anyone in need. She was a very active member of Calvary Baptist Church where she was involved in helping with the GA’s and many other missions and birthday celebrations with Broyhill Children’s Home. Rebecca also loved traveling, having visited many states in the U.S., as well as gardening.
She is survived by a daughter, the Rev. N. Diane Stamey, and her husband, the Rev. Phillip Hurst, of Tryon; a son, David Ronald “Ronnie” Stamey Sr., and his wife, Carolyn, of Canton; a brother, Charles M. Henderson, and his wife, Joyce, of Morganton; three grandchildren, David R. Stamey Jr., Stephanie D. Stamey McFall, and Lori Hurst Crowder; eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at noon Wednesday, April 17, at Calvary Baptist Church with the Revs. Darrell Webb and Phillip Hurst officiating. Burial will follow at Crawford/Ray Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10:45 until 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
