Record turnout for alternative education graduation is great news

Despite overcrowding that prevented family members and some well-wishers from attending graduation ceremonies for the Alternative Learning Center and Central Haywood High School on Sunday, there’s good news behind the unfortunate incident.
There was a record turnout at the ceremony, something some school leaders attribute to holding it on a Sunday. Another factor was an additional  15 students at the Alternative Learning Center who weren’t expected to complete course work, but ended up doing so and graduating.
Additionally, some of the ALC students who graduated in December showed up for the June ceremony, something that hasn’t happened to this extent in past years. School administrators say the growing number of students who participate in the ceremony is largely due to a program that ...
