The Calvary Chapel Waynesville hosts “An Evening with Gayle Erwin,” a religious author, at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 7. The church is located at 41 Depot St. Admission is free.

Erwin, director of Servant Quarters ministry, has traveled around the globe teaching about a concept he refers to as “Nature of Jesus” — how to lead a servant lifestyle in a complex age. His humorous style is suitable for engaging audiences of all backgrounds.

Erwin is also an accomplished author. His newest book, “Not Many Mighty,” proves that God rarely uses the elite, preferring those Erwin identifies with and calls "Jerks."

His first book, “The Jesus Style,” has sold more than 500,000 copies and has been translated into 35 languages. Other books include: “The Father Style,” “The Spirit Style,” “The Body Style” and the “Handbook for Servants.”

Two of his more popular books are “That Reminds Me of a Story,” a compilation of 40 true stories from his life, and the sequel, “That Reminds Me of Another Story,” with more than 50 true stories gathered from his life and observations.

Erwin and his wife, Ada, live in Cathedral City, California.

That should be "Calvary," as in the hill where Christ died, not "Cavalry," which refers to soldiers on horseback.
