Repeat DUI offender imprisoned

A repeat DUI offender responsible for a car crash that left a woman with numerous injuries, including the inability to walk, will spend up to three and a half years behind bars.

Jessica Nicole Simonds, 27, pleaded guilty to felony aggravated assault by a motor vehicle in Superior Administrative Court last week.

The charge stemmed from an accident on July 13 when Simonds was driving under the influence on Old Balsam Road and collided head-on with Angela Woody, who was turning into her apartment complex with her 14-year-old son.

Woody was rushed to Mission Hospital with a fracture in her left hip, fractured femur and a deep laceration in her left leg, injuries that have left her unsure of whether she will ever walk again.
