Spicewood Cottages Retirement Center is pleased to announce that Willows Cottage (formerly Hospitality Retreat) was recently awarded a four star rating (the highest) by the N.C. Dept. of Health and Human Services. This is the second building of the Spicewood Cottages complex to be awarded four stars since becoming part of the Haywood Lodge & Retirement Center organization.

In 2009 North Carolina implemented a new star rating system for adult and family care homes. The program known as the N.C. Star Rated Certificte program is intended to help consumers make informed decisions regarding care options. All adult care homes (facilities with seven or more residents) and family care homes (facilities with two to six residents) are inspected as part of this program.

The unannounced inspections evaluate the following criteria to determine these ratings; physical plant requirements, admission and discharge requirements, residents assessment and care plans, resident care and services, medication management, special care units for Alzheimer's and related disorders, special care units for mental health disorders, use of physical restraints and alternatives, residents' rights, emergency power backup and automatic sprinklers.

"This is a testament to the amount of work that has gone into these facilities over the past few months, both behind the scenes and elsewhere. We are determined to provide the residents with the best care, services and accommodations and we are proud to be recognized for our high standards of quality with this rating," said Aaron Crawford, owner and administrator. "While the building renovations are ongoing at Spicewood Cottages, this solidifies the progress we have already made in the care of our residents," he said.

Spicewood Cottages, which is now part of the Haywood Lodge & Retirement Center organization is a locally owned and operated retirement and assisted living facility located behind the Mountain Medical Center in Clyde. New residents are being accepted. Visit or call 456-8365 for more information.
