Rev. James Lindsay Johnson

WAYNESVILLE — The Rev. James Lindsay Johnson, 70, passed away Tuesday, March 5, 2013, at St. Joseph Campus.
A native of Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late James Donald Johnson, Sr. and Edith Phibbs Johnson. He was also preceded in death by a son, Jonathan Stokes Johnson, who died in 2006. Jim was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church. He served at the Baptist Children’s Home for 21 years. Jim was an ordained minister and served as an associate pastor for three-and-a-half years at Dellwood Baptist Church. Jim loved the Lord and left this world sharing God’s word.
He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Vivian Wilson Johnson; a son, Tim Johnson, and his wife, Dawn, of Waynesville; a sister, Becky Shuford, and her husband, Dr. William Ferrell, of Wilmington; two brothers, James Donald Johnson Jr., and his wife, Sharon, of Waynesville, and William Johnson, and his wife, Thelma, of Bastrop, Louisiana; three grandchildren, Savannah, Mackenzie and Julianna Johnson; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at noon Friday, March 8, at Ridgeway Baptist Church with the Revs. Jack W. Collins and Bobby Rogers officiating. The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. to noon at the church. A graveside service will be held at noon Saturday at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery in Friendship, South Carolina, with the Revs. C.F. McDowell and Bobby Rogers officiating.
