Reverend David H. Shaver

LAKE JUNALUSKA — Reverend David Harold Shaver, 85, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014 at The Homestead.
A native of Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, and a former resident of Florida, he had resided at Lake Junaluska since 1995. David was the son of the late Milford and Hortense Crocker Shaver. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. The Rev. Shaver received his undergraduate degree from Florida Southern College and attended Candler School of Theology at Emory University. He was appointed a minister in the United Methodist Church Florida Conference where he served numerous churches for over 50 years. In addition to his career as a minister, David was an avid reader, loved to travel and also enjoyed music and history.
He is survived by his wife, Jeannette Bussey Shaver; one son, David Mark Shaver of Zephyrhills, Florida; two daughters, Deborah Scavelli and her husband, Dave, and Mary Bowles and her husband, Ron, of Waynesville; one brother, Milford Gail Shaver and his wife, Susan, of Asheville; one sister, Marilyn Warrick and her husband, Mark, of Brunswick, Ohio; and four grandchildren, Garrett, Mackenzie, Jaxon, and Lauren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with the Rev. Sanford L. Giles officiating. The family will receive friends following the service at the church.
