Loved His Family
CANTON — Robert Wayne Burrell, 71,of Pigeon Road, a beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 26, 2014.
Mr. Burrell was born April 19, 1943, and was a lifelong native of Haywood County. He retired from Blue Ridge Paper with 41 years of dedicated service and was a Champion Old Timer. He was a member of Welcome Hill Baptist Church. Robert was a devoted Pisgah High School football fan who rarely missed a game. He was an avid walker, a true NASCAR fan and he could often be found working crossword puzzles. Robert also enjoyed watching Western movies and he loved doing carpentry work. He spent many hours watching the hummingbirds in his beautiful backyard that was truly a place of peace and solace for Robert. He devoted his life to his family and loved each of them deeply. Robert’s memory will be held in their hearts forever.
He was preceded in death by his father, Grady L. Burrell; an infant son, Kevin Keith Burrell; a brother, Ruben Burrell; and an infant sister.
Surviving are his loving wife of 50 years, Theresa Rogers Burrell; his mother, Marie Parsons, of Waynesville; a daughter, Kendra Burrell McKay, of Canton; a son, Tim Burrell and wife, Lynn, of Canton; a sister, Meredith Tucker and husband, Kenneth, of Waynesville; grandchildren, Alina Pitts and husband, Patrick, of Waynesville, and Savannah McKay, of Canton; several nieces, nephews and many friends.
A celebration of life service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 6, at Welcome Hill Baptist Church. Robert’s nephew, the Rev. Craig Tucker, will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends in the church fellowship hall following the service.
