The annual Block Party and Kids on Main offers fun for everyone Saturday evening, August 31, Labor Day weekend.

The official Rockin’ Block Party kicks off at 7 p.m. with three live bands, dancing, restaurants and many shops open late. The 96.5 House Band, Fall Creek, and Wilhelm offer a variety of music for everyone. One hour earlier, Kids on Main will provide kid-friendly craft activities focusing on families with young children, 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Sixteen businesses in the Main Street area will provide a full hour of fun. Kids will be able to color birds at Pleasant Places, chalk it up at Pink Regalia, make a book marks at Mast General Store, free popcorn and newspaper craft at the Mountaineer, fun acrylic art at Earthworks Gallery and pencil art at T Pennington Art Gallery, Affairs of the Heart has temporary tattoos, block print cards at Twigs & Leaves Gallery, Cheddar Box will help you design a macaroni necklace, make your own solar system in the Village Framer, color sheets in Visitor’s Center, taste grape juice in a wine glass at The WineSeller plus much more.  Hot dogs served by Waynesville Police, $1 sliders and kids color pigs at Blue Ridge BBQ, $1.99 kid’s dinner specials at Nick & Nate’s Pizzeria.

Come early, eat and play with us downtown. To join the fun, families are encouraged to look for a display of red balloons on Main Street where they will be given a map of participating businesses and activities.

Clothes to Kids, a local organization will join us on Main Street. Visit their booth and find out how you can donate much needed clothes for Haywood County school children. Sign up for an opportunity to volunteer.

Tom the Balloon Man and FunShine Faces will be designing balloon animals and painting faces all evening.

The Downtown Waynesville Association, which plans and coordinates the Block Party each year, incorporates Kids on Main with the help of downtown businesses in an effort to make attendance easier for young families with early bedtimes.  As always, people of all ages are welcome to stay through the entire Block Party to enjoy the entertainment.
