Rosemary Henderson Herman
FREDERICKSBURG, VIRGINIA — Rosemary Herman, age 87, passed away April 29, 2013, in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Rosemary was born Nov. 20, 1925, to the late Mary Knox (Henderson) and Ernest Knox Herman.
She was a professor at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg, teaching Spanish and Portuguese until her retirement. Rosemary was interested in the arts, native dress and music of all cultures, but particularly of Latin America and Japan. She was always interested in sharing her knowledge with her students and the community. Rosemary was involved early on in her career in getting her course books translated to braille for several students who were blind to assist them in their studies. If ever she saw a need to assist her students, she made sure the need was taken care of in an appropriate manner. She was always there for her students. Later in life she was involved with several Native American groups to promote reading on their reservation.
Rosemary is survived by cousins in Georgia and North Carolina, her Native American friends on several reservations and many friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, May 4, 2013, in the chapel Garrett Funerals and Cremations with the Rev. Erma Bond officiating. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends 30 minutes prior to the service.
