Wonderful, Loving Mother
WAYNESVILLE —Ruth A. Caldwell, 78, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Jan. 24, 2014. She was born in Haywood County to the late Elmer and Caddie Webb Norris. Ruth was the Sr. Adult Ladies Sunday school teacher at Dellwood Baptist Church. She loved life and spending time with her family and grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing, and reading her Bible. Above all, Ruth was a gentle, loving mother who always put others first. She was truly a faithful servant.
In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by a daughter, Kathy Owens; a granddaughter,Heidi Caldwell; three brothers, Fred, Lewis, and Bruce Norris; and one sister, Nancy Ward.
Ruth is survived by her husband of 61 years, the Rev. Elmer Caldwell; one daughter, Patricia Campbell and husband, Jackie; one son, Pastor Mark Caldwell and wife, Lynn; son-in-law, Tommy Owens; Whitley Owens, whom she has raised; two brothers, Leon (Shelbia) and Ulysses (Janet) Norris; two sisters, Doris Bryson (Dallas), and Sherry Henry (George); her grandchildren, Angela Campbell-Clontz, Shannon and Shawn Owens, Faith and Cameron Caldwell; eight great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27 in the chapel of Garrett Funerals and Cremations with Pastor Mark Caldwell, Pastor Dean Clontz and Pastor Bobby Rogers officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Haney Jr., Teddy Rose, Shane Rose, Thomas Ward, Bruce Kossman and Tommy Owens. Ward Green will serve as honorary pallbearer.
Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 p.m. at the funeral home and at other times at the residence.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sunday School Education Department of Dellwood Baptist Church at 115 Hall Drive, Waynesville, NC 28785.
