WAYNESVILLE — Ruth Louise Corwin Whitman, 78, of 118 Pitts St., passed away Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012, at Mission Hospital.

A native of Grantsville, West Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Owen Raymond and Helen Doane Corwin.  Ruth had three priorities in her life: faith, family, and bridge.  She was a selfless and nurturing woman always putting others before herself.  Ruth was heavily involved with Operation Christmas Child, hospice and The Open Door.  She also enjoyed knitting afghans and quilting for her friends and family.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, James N. Whitman; one daughter, Tawnya Lynne Gray, and her husband, Mike, of Roanoke Rapids; two sons, James Richard Whitman, and his wife, Marion, of Shawnee, Kansas, and Charles Brian ...
