Wonderful Mother, Grandmother

CANTON — As the soft snow fell across the mountains on Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2014, our beloved Ruth Ethel Hyde Sutton, 80, of Jody Cove Road, passed away into the arms of the angels.

Mrs. Sutton was born Sept. 29, 1933 in Haywood County to the late Wilkie Edward “Bill” Hyde and the late Flora Etta Pressley Hyde. She had made her home in Haywood County most of her life and retired from Dayco Corporation where she made many friendships that have lasted a lifetime. Mrs. Sutton attended Full Gospel Christian Fellowship Church where she was always willing to lend a helping hand to others and was very involved with church fundraisers and benefits. Ruth Ethel was indeed a talented ceramic artisan and she owned one of the largest ceramic shops in Western North Carolina which was located in her home. She was also a talented seamstress, a wonderful cook and her delicious chicken and dumplings were one of the special dishes that she often shared with her family and friends. Ruth Ethel was most happy when she was surrounded by her family who loved their mother and grandmother so deeply. The wonderful memories of Ruth Ethel held in the hearts of her friends and family will be forever cherished.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James “Jimmy” Sutton who passed away in 2007; a daughter, Annita Butler; a sister, Marie Plemmons; and a brother, Wayne “Ton” Hyde.

Surviving are her daughters, Lynn Sutton Heatherly and her husband, Ed Heatherly, of Granite Falls, Ginger Sutton Tilley and her husband, Tony Tilley, of Canton and Donna Sutton Miller and her husband, Dale Miller, of Canton; eight grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; a son-in-law, Craig Butler of Clyde; a sister-in-law and also her best friend, Elizabeth “Lib” Hyde of Canton; a brother, Ray Hyde and his wife, Earlene, of Canton; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 25 in the chapel of Crawford /Ray Funeral Home. Brother Neal Roland will be officiating. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home from 12:30 to 2 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Burial will be in Morning Star Community Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons and nephews.
