WAYNESVILLE — Ruth McKibben Williams, 94, of Grandview Circle, passed away Friday, Aug. 29, 2014, at her residence.
A native of Calhoun County, Mississippi, she was the daughter of the late Dana and Joyce Johnston McKibben. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Howard J. Williams, who died in 2003; a sister, Kate Kenright, and a brother, Max McKibben. Ruth taught world history and humanities at Waynesville Township High School and Tuscola High School. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Waynesville, where she taught Sunday school.
She is survived by a sister, Martha Joyce Smith; daughters, Ruth Anne Moody and husband, Fred, of Bryson City, and Sarah Claire Williams, of Lansdale, Pennsylvania; a son, Howard J. Williams Jr. and wife, Susan, of College Station, Texas; four grandchildren, Henry Moody and wife, Lara, Dana Cole Leonard and husband, Jeff, Genie Williams and Arthur Williams; and one great-grandchild, Mackenzie Cole Leonard.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, at First United Methodist Church of Waynesville with the Rev. Sanford L. Giles Jr. officiating. Burial will follow at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
