Same ol’, same ol’ Catamounts
CULLOWHEE — Since the season began, Western Carolina first-year head football coach Mark Speir has been preaching finishing as he tries to rebuild the program.
In front of a quiet homecoming crowd of only 8,714 fans at E.J. Whitmire Stadium/Bob Waters Field Saturday afternoon, it was eighth-ranked Georgia Southern who finished.
As a result of another blowout loss, it’s the same ol’, same ol’ Western Carolina, which slipped to 1-5 this season, 0-4 in the Southern Conference and fell to 12-61 overall since 2006.
And it gets worse.
The Eagles’ flex-bone triple-option ground attack gashed the Catamounts’ defense for 614 rushing yards (664 yards of total offense) and masterfully controlled the ball 40:28 compared to WCU’s 19:32.
