Samuel 'Sam' Van Duyne
Loving Father, Grandfather, Great-Grandfather
WAYNESVILLE —Samuel “Sam” Edward Van Duyne, 95, of J-Creek community, passed away at home Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 73 years, Challis Van Duyne; daughter, Betsy Noland; parents, Samuel and Florence Van Duyne; and brother, John VanDuyne.
Sam is survived by two daughters, Carol (John) Blackwell and Laurie Van Duyne, both of Waynesville; and son, Dave (Sharon) Van Duyne, of N.J.; six grandchildren, Jay and Robyn Blackwell, Dan (Morgan) Eaton, Kirsten Bonthron, Laura and Sam Anderson; great-grandchildren; and a good friend, John Tonkin.
Sam was originally from Atlantic City, N.J. He was a boat/home builder who enjoyed wood working and sailing with his family. Sam retired to the mountains with his wife, leaving behind a legacy of boat building on the shores of N.J. He loved animals and reading, and was a veteran of the Coast Guard. “Pop” was deeply loved and will be dearly missed.
A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to the Waynesville Public Library, or Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation in memory of Samuel Van Duyne.
