Sarge’s benefits from poker run
A roaring good time was had June 21 by riders at the second annual Ride for the Animals Poker Run held for the benefit of Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation.
Phil and Trish Lamana of Waynesville organized this fun way support the homeless dogs and cats of Haywood County. The event raised nearly $3,000 in support of Sarge’s mission to save dogs and cats from euthanasia. Debi Slater, Sarge’s operations manager, helped the Lamanas stage the event.
The 82-mile poker run included stops at Salty Dog’s Bar & Grill, Cherokee Harley-Davidson, Mickey’s Irish Pub, the No Name Sports Bar and the last stop, the Rendezvous Pool Side Tiki Bar, where a party was held. The barbecue dinner was free, donated by the owners of The Rendezvous Restaurant in memory of their beloved dog Taco, who passed away recently.
The sponsors included the Salty Dog Restaurant, Cherokee Harley-Davidson, No Name Sports Pub, the Chalet Motel and Apartment, the Rendezvous Restaurant, ARM Trucking, Anytime Towing & Recovery, Mickey's Irish Pub, Smoky View Cottages & RV Resort and John and Wanda Lurvey.
Sarge’s is grateful to the volunteers who dealt the cards, served the food, sold tickets, and cleaned up afterwards, including Kathy and Keith LaTulipe, Kim Jenkins, Shania Winchester, Debi Slater, Nancy Bulluck, Pete Sacco, Jean Hazzard, Leyah Pilkington, Bob McNeil and Michael Clark.
