April was another record month for Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation’s pet adoptions. During April, there were 50 adoptions (17 cats, 33 dogs) — a 25 a percent increase over April 2013, which had 40 adoptions (15 cats, 25 dogs).

Year-to-date, Sarge’s had 243 adoptions (81 cats, 162 dogs) — a 10 percent increase in adoptions vs. the 221 adoptions (72 cats, 149 dogs) for the same period last year.

“We are grateful to animal lovers who are keeping the momentum going,” said Sarge’s vice president and adoption coordinator Michael Ritter. “But keep in mind, there are still many dogs and cats in Haywood County needing good homes.”

Sarge’s mission is to save Haywood County animals from euthanasia. Dogs and cats are available for adoption from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays and larger adoption events are held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays, at Sarge’s Adoption Center, 256 Industrial Park Dr., Waynesville, or the public may adopt Sarge’s cats from PetSmart, in Waynesville.

Volunteers are needed for many different tasks at Sarge’s. People in the community can help the effort, either by volunteering their time or donating funds for the medical care of the animals.
