June was another great month for Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation. The total of 64 adoptions (24 cats, 40 dogs) sets a new record for June, which was set previously in 2012, with 58 adoptions (22 cats, 36 dogs). In June 2013, there were 47 adoptions (17 cats, 30 dogs).

For the first half of the year, Sarge’s continues on a record pace with 360 adoptions (118 cats, 242 dogs), a 14 percent increase vs. 315 adoptions (105 cats, 210 dogs) for the first half of 2013, which was the previous record.

“We are grateful to animal lovers who are keeping the momentum going,” said Sarge’s vice president and adoption coordinator Michael Ritter. “But keep in mind, there are still many dogs and cats in Haywood County needing good homes.”

Dog lovers, be sure to sign up for Sarge’s 9th Annual Downtown Dog Walk, which will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, along Main Street in Waynesville.

Sarge’s mission is to save Haywood County animals from euthanasia. Dogs and cats are available for adoption from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays to Thursdays and larger adoption events are held 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays at Sarge’s Adoption Center, 256 Industrial Park Dr., Waynesville, or the public may adopt Sarge’s cats from PetSmart, in Waynesville.

Volunteers are needed for many different tasks at Sarge’s. People in the community can help the effort, either by volunteering their time or donating funds for the medical care of the animals.
