Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation set a record February for adoptions, with 68 adoptions (22 cats, 45 dogs and 1 rabbit). This compares to 65 adoptions (16 cats, 49 dogs) in February 2013, which was the previous record.

Year-to-date, Sarge’s has had 120 adoptions (41 cats, 78 dogs and one rabbit).

“Let’s keep the momentum going,” said Sarge’s president Gary Smith. “There are still plenty of dogs and cats in Haywood County needing good homes.”

Sarge’s mission is to save Haywood County animals from euthanasia. Dogs and cats are available for adoption from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturdays at Sarge’s Adoption Center, 256 Industrial Park Dr., Waynesville, or the public may adopt Sarge’s cats from PetSmart, in Waynesville.

The community is asked to think about how people can help the effort, either by volunteering their time or donating funds for the medical care of the animals.
