Sarge’s holds annual meeting, elects board
Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation held its annual meeting March 20 at the Shelton House Barn in Waynesville.
Board president Gary Smith reviewed the adoption successes of the previous year, gave a preview of 2014 events and presented the slate of board members.
Guest speaker Denise Bitz, founder and president of Brother Wolf Animal Rescue (BWAR), in Asheville, gave a presentation on the inception and growth of BWAR, which has become the largest no-kill organization in North Carolina.
New Sarge’s board members were elected, including Rachael Groffsky, Doyle Teague and Karen Weiss.
Groffsky has been an assistant district attorney with the 30th Prosecutorial District for more than four years. She said that volunteering with animals has always been one of her interests.
Teague was on the founding board of Sarge's and served on the board for seven years, including four years as president. He is an elections specialist with the Haywood County Board of Elections.
Weiss has been a registered vet tech for four years, and has been in the veterinary field for 10 years. She recently moved to the area with her husband, Jeff, their two dogs and two cats.
After the annual meeting, the board elected Steve Hewitt as president, Michael Ritter as vice president, Gary Smith as treasurer and Rachael Groffsky as secretary.
