Sarge’s seeks transport drivers
Last year, Sarge's Animal Rescue Foundation saved more than 500 dogs via Sarge’s interstate transport system, and this year the group is on track to save hundreds more. Typically, Sarge's does a transport every three weeks — leaving Wednesday evenings and returning mid-day on Friday, using two-person teams for the drive.
Sarge's has set records for local adoptions each of the last nine months, but unfortunately, it is not enough to save the lives of all the dogs that need homes in Haywood County. The combination of local adoptions and transport to Northeastern no-kill facilities for adoption has proven highly effective.
The transport committee has two driving teams in place and having one more would create a schedule that would allow each team to travel once every nine weeks.
Those interested in becoming a transport driver, or know people who might be, are asked to call Jim Ray, transport coordinator at 734-8171 or fill-out a volunteer application at www.sargeandfriends.org.
