Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation continued its record-breaking adoption pace through the end of 2013, with a total of 775 animals being adopted. This is a 24 percent increase vs. the 2012 total year adoptions of 627 animals (233 cats, 394 dogs) in 2012. That translates to a 33 percent growth rate for cats and 18 percent for dogs.

December 2013 was a record month also, with 99 adoptions (43 cats, 55 dogs and one pig) compared with 77 adoptions (37 cats, 40 dogs and zero pigs) in December 2012. The previous record for adoptions in a single month was 86 (40 cats, 46 dogs) in August 2013.

When animal transports are included, the total number of animals saved for 2013 was 1,104, a 19 percent increase vs. 2012.

“Let’s continue the record pace of adopting homeless animals in 2014 in Haywood County,” said Sarge’s board president Gary Smith. “It takes a big team effort to care for 775 animals before their adoptions, but let’s keep the momentum going. Many pets are still looking for loving homes.”

The community is asked to think about how people can help the effort, either by volunteering their time or donating funds for the medical care of the animals.
