Sarge’s to hold ‘Cats v. Dogs’ football game Feb. 1
Sarge’s Animal Rescue Foundation will hold its first “Adopt-A-Bowl” Saturday, Feb. 1. Facing off will be the Waynesville Wildcats vs. Haywood Houndies in a game of football driven by donations to Sarge’s.
“The cats are preparing — resting and saving energy for the big game,” said Corrine Baker, head cheerleader for the Sarge Bowl. “Dogs are doing whatever dogs do to prepare for pretty much anything — that is, play.”
To root for your favorite team in Super Bowl Saturday's Adopt-a-Bowl, use the "donate social" button on Sarge’s Facebook page. Each dollar donated moves the ball closer to the end zone for the team a donor indicates. The game runs from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with some breaks "to allow the cats to nap."
Each time a team reaches $50 in donations, the team will score a touchdown. If a participant donates $50 in one donation, their team will score a touch down and earn the extra point. Scores and updates on the game will be posted every quarter.
“We needed an unbiased referee for our big game this weekend,” Baker said. “Baby the Bunny will make the perfect ‘head ref’ for the Adopt-A-Bowl. And, Baby is up for adoption, too.”
All proceeds go directly to saving the lives of more dogs and cats in Haywood County.
