Sarge’s 9th Annual Downtown Dog Walk will be held Saturday, Aug. 2, along Main Street in Waynesville. Sponsorships are being encouraged now in advance of the summer season.

“Sponsors, both businesses and individuals, benefit from this community event,” said Marita Scholtz, co-chairman.

The donations raised through the Annual Downtown Dog Walk help supply food, medical care, spay and neuter costs, and shelter for animals at our Adoption Center, foster homes, and off-site boarding. This funding also supports local and long distance transport. Eighty-nine cents of every dollar goes directly to the rescue and care of abandoned animals in Haywood County.

All sponsor names are printed on the back of the T-shirts. More than 300 shirts were distributed last year. Sponsors are mentioned in pre-event publicity and listed in a thank you ad in the paper. Sponsors will also be recognized on the Sarge’s website and Facebook page. There will be vendor space provided at the Haywood County Court House lawn, where the walk begins and ends.

“Every day more than 9,000 pets are killed in America’s shelters simply because they don’t have a temporary home,” said Corrine Baker, co-chairman.

In 2013, Sarge’s had a 19 percent increase in cats and dogs being saved over the previous year.

“Sponsorships are crucial to the success of the Dog Walk,” said Baker. “Please help us continue this important mission in our community and join us for this fun event.”
